Kurst was one of the spirits competing for the body that Franks came to inhabit. Kurst hates Franks for many of his own reasons. As the saying goes, 'pride cometh before the fall'. He is cunning and determined, but extremely prideful. He has no empathy, no moral compass and is, quite literally, a demon from hell. He hates humanity and desires nothing more than to destroy it completely and take it over himself.

Kurst is a spirit without a body, however in Monster Hunter Nemesis, when Stricken creates physical vessels as part of Project Nemesis, Kurst inhabits the body of a flesh golem that looks like a twenty year old white male. Since he is a leader and a prince among the Fallen, this means there are few hosts that can hold his spirit. Unlike previously, Lord Machado appears in his human form as one of the leaders of the Old Ones' forces operating in Brazil.Kurst is really a play on words for his real name, the Creator named him 'Cursed' as he was cast into the Void. One of the things both sides began to do was to resurrect some of their most loyal and powerful followers that may still be useful to them. With the awakening of Asag, the Old Ones began preparing for what would inevitably be a faction war between their forces and his. He was ultimately defeated and killed by Owen Pitt. Lord Machado wanted to use the artifact, the Kumaresh Yar, under the direction of Koriniha to conquer the world and 'claim his birthright'. After the torture of the Old Ones, what remained of Lord Machado became the Cursed One. Lord Machado did not die during his centuries of torture, his hatred and entitlement kept him alive. The Old Ones were offended by this demand and, instead, tortured him for centuries before becoming bored. Lord Machado became the Cursed One when, after failing to complete the summoning ceremony with the priestess Koriniha, he demanded that the Old Ones hear him and bring the priestess back. He was one of many sons of a nobleman and a failed merchant before being sent by King Manuel to explore and conquer the New World, or modern day Brazil. Lord Machado was a former Portuguese conquistador from the early 1500s. His presence was so evil, in fact, that merely stepping foot onto a continent sent a jolt through every living thing, like a sudden sense of dread, alerting them that something evil had arrived.

however, instead of flesh, he was composed of a 'mass of withering darkness' that moved similarly to a writhing mass of worms or snakes. Lord Machado as the Cursed One is described as being shaped as a man wearing conquistador armor.
